- Lancelot was born in Hallealtolia to his single mother Ursula who fled to the Province after her husband was murdered my his creditors. As a young boy he often dreamed of joining the Guardsmen of the Province to protect those who could not protect themselves, so when he reached the age of majority he enlisted in the newly formed Army. Achieving the rank of Colonel at the age of 21, Van der Strand was considered one of the most ambitious and exceptional millitary commanders and his advice was often sought by the Field Marshal and even the Archons themselves. It was while he was in this post that he realised that to better protect the Province and the culture he wished to endure, a naval presence was needed. The Archons agreed with him and created the Standing Fleets, of which Strand was appointed Grand Admiral and elevated to be the Fifth Archon, the most junior member of the Archonate.
